আমাদের স্বাধীনতার ইচ্ছেটা। আমরা স্বাধীনতার জন্য লড়ছি আর সেই সব ভিনদেশী মানুষ গুলো আমাদের জন্য চেষ্টা করছে তাও আবার যে দেশটি চায় না স্বাধীন হোক এই দেশটা, সেই মাটিতেই! <br /> <br /> গানতো গানই! গানে আবার শোক-দুঃখের আবহ কেন? এমন প্রশ্ন যাদের মনে ছিল, ১৯৭১ সালের ১ আগস্ট তারা বর্ণে-শব্দে উত্তর পেয়ে যান সে প্রশ্নের! <br /> <br /> সে প্রশ্নের উত্তর ছিল একটি কনসার্টের মাধ্যমে, ‘বাংলাদেশ’ শিরোনামে একটি গানের মাধ্যমে! আর ঐ প্রশ্নের উত্তর দেন বিশ্বের দু’জন সঙ্গীতগুরু সদ্য প্রয়াত সেতার বাদক ওস্তাদ রবি শংকর, মানবতাবাদী গায়ক জর্জ হ্যারিসন সহ সব কীর্তিমান একেকজন সংগীত এর কিংবদন্তিতুল্য গায়ক- বব ডিলান, এরিক ক্লিপটন, বিলি প্রিষ্টন, লিয়ন রাসেল, রিঙ্গো স্টার, ডন প্রিষ্টন, ওস্তাদ আল্লারাখা, ওস্তাদ আলী আকবর খান, কমলা চক্রবর্তী সহ আরও অনেকে যারাই ছিলেন সব দারুন সঙ্গীতজ্ঞ। বাজিয়েছেন সব বিখ্যাত সংগীত সালের মাঝামাঝি। এক ভয়াল সময় অতিক্রম করছে বাংলাদেশের অগণিত মানুষ। বিশ্বের বৃহৎ পশ্চিমী রাষ্ট্রগুলি বাংলাদেশে পাকিস্তানী সামরিক বাহিনীর গণহত্যা আর ধ্বংসযজ্ঞের ব্যাপারে সচেতন হচ্ছে না। বাংলাদেশের মানুষের যৌক্তিক দাবী দমন করার জন্য পাকিস্তানী সামরিক সরকার বেছে নিলো নির্মম সামরিক আক্রমণের পথ। অজস্র বাঙালী তাদের ঘরবাড়ি ছেড়ে, কেবল প্রাণ বাঁচানোর তাগিদে ভারতে শরণার্থী হিসেবে আশ্রয় নিলো। শুরু হলো বাংলাদেশের মুক্তিসংগ্রাম। অথচ ক্ষমতাধর মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্র বিশ্বের এই প্রান্তে নিজেদের রাজনৈতিক প্রভাব টিকিয়ে রাখার জন্য নতুন দেশ হিসেবে বাংলাদেশের আবির্ভাবের বিরোধিতায় ব্যস্ত। বাংলাদেশের শরণার্থীদের আশ্রয় দেয়ার জন্য, বাঙালী মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের সমর্থন করার জন্য ভারতের প্রধানমন্ত্রী ইন্দিরা গান্ধী তখন নিক্সন প্রশাসনের চক্ষুশূল। বাংলাদেশের মানুষের ওপর বিশ্বের অন্যতম শক্তিশালী একটি সামরিক বাহিনীর আগ্রাসন বন্ধ করার জন্য ভূমিকা রাখার পরিবর্তে, বহু বাঙালী শরণার্থীর দুর্দশা দেখার পরও ভারত কেন বাঙালী গেরিলাদের সমর্থন করছে তার সমালোচনা তুলে ধরতেই মার্কিন, বৃটিশ প্রশাসনের যেন আগ্রহ বেশি। বাঙালী মুক্তিযোদ্ধারা তাদের সীমিত সামর্থ্য আর অসীম মনোবল নিয়ে যুদ্ধ করে চলেছে। সাফল্য আসে, আর সাথে সাথে আসে গভীর বেদনা, কারণ এই সাফল্যের জন্য দিতে হয় অনেক বড় মূল্য। বৃহৎ আন্তর্জাতিক শক্তির বৈরী মনোভাব যুদ্ধ আর দেশের ভবিষ্যৎ নিয়ে কেবল অতিরিক্ত উদ্বেগ আর উৎকন্ঠাই সৃষ্টি করছিলো বাংলাদেশের মানুষের জন্য ১৯৭১-এর মাঝামাঝি সেই শান্তিহীন সময়ে। <br /> <br /> এমন পরিস্থিতিতেই ১৯৭১ সালের পহেলা আগস্ট বাংলাদেশকে সাহায্য করার জন্য বাংলাদেশের স্বাধীনতা যুদ্ধের প্রতি বিরূপ মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্রেই আয়োজন করা হয় এক অসাধারণ কনসার্ট, যা ইতিহাসে স্থান করে নিয়েছে বিভিন্ন কারণে। এর আগে কখনো একদল অসম্ভব খ্যাতিমান এবং বরেণ্য সঙ্গীতশিল্পী কোন দেশকে সাহায্য করার জন্য একসাথে কোন অনুষ্ঠানে অংশগ্রহণ করেননি, ইতিহাসে এমন কনসার্ট এই প্রথম। এই কনসার্ট অগণিত মানুষের সামনে তুলে ধরে সঙ্গীত আর শিল্পের শক্তি, যে শক্তি অতিক্রম করে যায় অনেক রাজনৈতিক শক্তিকেও। নিউ ইয়র্কের ম্যাডিসন স্কয়ার গার্ডেনে উপস্থিত হওয়া বহু মার্কিন তরুণ-তরুণী দেখতে পান তাদের প্রিয় সঙ্গীতশিল্পীরা তুলে ধরছেন মানবতা আর বর্বরতার পার্থক্য, আর তাঁরা সবাইকে আহ্বান জানাচ্ছেন অসহায়, অত্যাচারিত মানুষের পাশে দাঁড়াবার জন্য যখন তাদের দেশের সরকারকে বহু নিপীড়িত মা আর শিশুর ক্রন্দন স্পর্শ করছে না।<br /> <br /> এই কনসার্ট তাই ছিল এক প্রতিবাদী কনসার্ট, মানবতা আর কল্যাণের পক্ষে আর অশুভত্ব আর অন্যায়ের বিরুদ্ধে এক সাহসী কনসার্ট।<br /> <br /> কনসার্টের অর্থ যেখানে আনন্দ-উন্মাদনায় ভেসে যাওয়া, সেখানে সেই কনসার্ট বিশ্বের কোটি মানুষের হৃদয়ের দুয়ারে পৌঁছে দিল অন্য এক অর্থ - মানবতার আর্তি। পৌঁছে দিল ভিন্ন প্রান্তে কাঁদতে থাকা বিশ্ব ভাইয়ের ভালোবাসা! ‘কনসার্ট ফর বাংলাদেশ’ - এর প্রশংসনীয় উদ্যোগ আর শুভত্ব পশ্চিমী রক আর পপ সঙ্গীত জগতে জমে থাকা গ্লানি, বিষণ্ণতা আর মলিনতাকে অনেকখানি মুছে দেয়। সঙ্গীতশিল্পীরা তাঁদের কর্তব্যবোধ, সাহস আর মহানুভবতার প্রমাণ তুলে ধরেন এই কনসার্টটির মধ্য দিয়ে। মানবতার প্রয়োজনে, এক মহান উদ্দেশ্যে সঙ্গীত ব্যবহারের অনন্য দৃষ্টান্ত স্থাপিত হয় সেই দিন। বিখ্যাত সঙ্গীতশিল্পীরা কেউ কেউ কয়েক হাজার মাইল পাড়ি দিয়ে নিউ ইয়র্কে আসেন এই কনসার্টে অংশ নিতে, বিনিময়ে কোন পারিশ্রমিক গ্রহণ করেননি তাঁরা।<br /> <br /> এ কনসার্টের মূল পরিকল্পনাকারী ছিলেন বিখ্যাত বাঙ্গালি সঙ্গীতজ্ঞ পণ্ডিত রবিশংকর। ১৯৬৫ সালে এক রাতে রবিশংকরের সঙ্গে পরিচয় হয়েছিল জর্জ হ্যারিসনের। জর্জ বছর তিনেক সেতার নিয়ে অনুশীলন করেছিলেন তিনি পন্ডিত রবিশংকরের কাছে। রবিশংকরের মাধ্যমেই বাংলাদেশের সঙ্গে জর্জের আত্মিক সম্পর্ক গড়ে ওঠে। ১৯৭১ সালে রবিশংকর বসবাস করতেন ক্যালিফোর্নিয়ার হলিউডে। ভারতে বিপুলসংখ্যক মানুষের উদ্বাস্তু হয়ে আসার খবর শুনে তিনি বাংলাদেশের প্রতি সহমর্মী হয়ে ওঠেন। উদ্বাস্তুদের মধ্যে তাঁর অনেক দুঃসম্পর্কের আত্মীয়-পরিজনও ছিল। তিনি তাদের, বিশেষ করে শিশুদের সাহায্য করতে উন্মুখ হয়ে ওঠেন । রবিশঙ্কর বাংলায় ‘জয় বাংলা’সহ বেশ কিছু গান বাঁধেন। এমনকি তিনি অ্যাপেল রেকর্ড থেকে একটি গানের অ্যালবামও বের করেন। কিন্তু সংকটের ভয়াবহতার পরিপ্রেক্ষিতে এই রেকর্ড বিক্রি থেকে যে যৎসামান্য লাভ হয়, তা ছিল নিতান্তই নগণ্য। ১৯৭১ সালের মে মাসে তিনি অনুধাবন করেন, বড় একটা কিছু করা দরকার। বন্ধু জর্জ হ্যারিসনের কাছে তিনি একটি চ্যারিটি কনসার্টের পরিকল্পনার কথা জানান। এই প্রসঙ্গে হ্যারিসনের স্ত্রী অলিভিয়া বলেছিলেন, "জর্জের কাছে শুনেছি, একাত্তরে বাংলাদেশে গণহত্যা, ধ্বংস আর হানাহানি বিপর্যস্ত করে তুলেছিল রবি শংকরকে। এ নিয়ে মনঃকষ্টে ছিল সে। অন্যদিকে নিজের রেকর্ডিং নিয়ে ব্যস্ত ছিল জর্জ। সত্তরে বিটলস ভেঙে যাওয়ায় নতুন করে ক্যারিয়ার গড়তে সে মনোযোগী হয়ে ওঠে। এ সময় রবিশংকর জানায়, বাংলাদেশের জন্য তহবিল সংগ্রহে একটি কনসার্ট করতে চায়। এ উদ্যোগে সে জর্জকে পাশে পেতে চায়। জর্জেরও মনে হলো, এ কাজে তার নিযুক্ত হওয়া উচিত। তার ডাকে অনেকে সাড়া দেবে, একাত্তরের উত্তাল দিনগুলোর মাঝামাঝি সময়ে ওই কনসার্ট আয়োজন সময়োপযোগী ছিল। জর্জ তখন বব ডিলান, এরিক ক্ল্যাপটন, বিলি প্রেস্টন, রিঙ্গো স্টার, লিওন রাসেল, ওস্তাদ আলী আকবর, ওস্তাদ আল্লা রাখা ও রবি শংকরকে নিয়ে কনসার্ট আয়োজন করে। ওই কনসার্ট দিয়েই বাংলাদেশের সঙ্গে জর্জের বন্ধন শুরু।"</div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> হ্যারিসন সঙ্গে সঙ্গেই রাজি হয়ে যান। যদিও বছর খানেক হয় বিটলস ভেঙে গেছে, তবুও তিনি জানতেন, তার পরও বিটলসের ভাবমূর্তিকে কাজে লাগানো যাবে। হ্যারিসন স্মৃতিচারণা করে বলেন, জন লেননই তাঁকে বিটলসের ভাবমূর্তি কাজে লাগানোর কথা জোর দিয়ে বলেন। পরবর্তী কয়েক সপ্তাহে হ্যারিসন কাটিয়ে দেন সংগীতজ্ঞদের তালিকা বানাতে। তিনি সবার সহানুভূতিও পেয়ে যান। নিউইয়র্কের ম্যাডিসন স্কয়ার গার্ডেনে ১৯৭১ সালের ১ আগস্ট কনসার্টের দিন নির্ধারিত হয়। দিনটি ছাড়া আর কোনো খালি দিন ছিল না। কনসার্টের মহড়ার জন্য তাঁরা খুব একটা সময়ও পাননি। <br /> <br /> কনসার্টের তারিখ চূড়ান্ত হওয়ার পর বিভিন্ন পত্র-পত্রিকা ও গণমাধ্যমে কনসার্ট নিয়ে ব্যাপক প্রচারণা চালান হ্যারিসন ও রবিশংকর। পাঁচ সপ্তাহের মধ্যে কনসার্টের আয়োজন সম্পন্ন করে ফেলেন হ্যারিসন ও রবিশংকর বন্ধুদ্বয়। তারপর নির্দিষ্ট দিনে ইউনিসেফের প্রত্যক্ষ সহযোগিতায় শুরু হয় কনসার্ট। লেনন, রিংগো স্টার, এরিক ক্ল্যাপটন, বব ডিলান, বিলি প্যাটারসন, ও লেওন রাসেলসহ সে সময়কার রক গানের উজ্জ্বলতম নক্ষত্রদের একত্র করতে চেয়েছিলেন হ্যারিসন। কিন্তু কনসার্টের এক সপ্তাহ আগে লেনন এতে অংশগ্রহণ করতে পারবেন না বলে জানিয়েছিলেন।<br /> <br /> এরিক ক্ল্যাপটনের এই কনসার্টে অংশগ্রহণ করা নিয়েও তৈরি হয়েছিল অনেক সংশয়। ষাটের দশকের শেষ ভাগে রক সঙ্গীতের মন্থর সেই সময়ে ক্ল্যাপটনও হয়ে পড়েছিলেন উদ্বিগ্ন হয়ে ওঠেন একজন গিটারিস্টের জন্য, বহু আগ্রহী গিটারিস্ট সেই সময় এসে ভিড় জমায় অনুষ্ঠানে অংশ নেয়ার জন্য। জর্জ হ্যারিসন মার্কিন গিটারিস্ট জেসি এড ডেভিস কে বেছেও নেন। তিনি ব্লুজ সঙ্গীতশিল্পী এ থেকে ২০ হাজার ডলারের মতো উঠবে। কিন্তু কনসার্ট শেষে আয় দাঁড়ায় প্রায় আড়াই লাখ ডলার। ইউনিসেফের মাধ্যমে এ অর্থ ত্রাণের কাজে ব্যয় করা হয়। এই কনসার্টের বাণী এর ভেন্যুকে ছাড়িয়েও ধ্বনিত-প্রতিধ্বনিত হতে থাকে। সংবাদপত্রে তো ছবি ছাপা হয়ই, বিশ্বের বিভিন্ন টিভি চ্যানেলে সেটা সম্প্রচারিত হয়। এরপর তিনটি ক্যাসেটের একটি বাক্সবন্দী অ্যালবাম বেরোয়, শিগগিরই তা সারা দুনিয়ায় তালিকার শীর্ষে চলে আসে। অ্যালবামের মূল প্রচ্ছদে একটি রোগা শিশুর শূন্য থালা সামনে নিয়ে বসে থাকার ছবি ছিল। ছবিটি মুহূর্তে বাংলাদেশের প্রতিমূর্তি হয়ে ওঠে। অ্যালবামে যে নোট ছিল, তাতে পাকিস্তানি সেনাবাহিনীকে একটি 'পরিকল্পিত সন্ত্রাসের রাজত্ব কায়েম' ও হিটলার কর্তৃক ইহুদি নিধনের পর সবচেয়ে জঘন্য ও নৃশংস এই হত্যাকাণ্ডের জন্য দায়ী করা হয়।</div> <div> <table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" কনসার্ট সেই প্রজন্মের অনুভূতিকে নাড়া দিতে পেরেছিল। জনগণের ওপর এর প্রভাব কত গভীর ছিল, তা পাকিস্তান সরকারের প্রতিক্রিয়া দেখেই বোঝা যায়। পাকিস্তান সরকার তার সব দূতাবাসকে এই বলে সতর্ক করে দেয় যে এতে 'পাকিস্তানবিরোধী প্রচারণা রয়েছে'। সঙ্গে সঙ্গে এও বলে দেয় যে তাদের সব রকম যোগাযোগের মাধ্যমে এর 'সম্প্রচার বন্ধ করে দিতে হবে'। সংগত কারণেই এর রেকর্ড পাকিস্তানে সরকারিভাবে নিষিদ্ধ করা হয়।<br /> <br /> দ্য কনসার্ট ফর বাংলাদেশ-এর পর দেশে দেশে মানবতার কল্যাণে কত বড় বড় কনসার্ট হলো দুনিয়া ভর। কিন্তু সেসবেরই পথিকৃৎ হয়ে আছে ৪০ বছর আগের দ্য কনসার্ট ফর বাংলাদেশ। ২০০৫ সালে নতুন করে প্রকাশিত হয়েছে দ্য কনসার্ট ফর বাংলাদেশ অ্যালবামের ডিভিডি। দুটি ডিভিডির একটি সুদৃশ্য সেট এখনো পাওয়া যায়। এর সঙ্গে যুক্ত ছিলেন অলিভার হ্যারিসন। একটি সিডিতে রয়েছে পুরো গানের অনুষ্ঠান। আরেকটি সিডিতে রয়েছে শিল্পী-কলাকুশলীদের সাক্ষাৎকার, যাতে কনসার্টটি আয়োজনের নেপথ্য কাহিনি তুলে ধরা হয়েছে। আরও আছে মহড়ার কিছু চিত্র ও গান। এর সঙ্গে আছে একটি সচিত্র পুস্তিকা। এই নতুন ডিভিডির ভূমিকায় পণ্ডিত রবিশংকর বলেছেন, ৭৫ বছরের সংগীতজীবনে যত কনসার্ট করেছেন, তার মধ্যে সবচেয়ে স্মরণীয় হয়ে আছে ম্যাডিসন স্কয়ার গার্ডেনের ওই কনসার্টটিই। নতুন ডিভিডিতে সাক্ষাৎকারে এরিক ক্ল্যাপটন বলেছেন, "এ অনুষ্ঠান সারা জীবনের জন্য স্মরণীয় হয়ে থাকবে। সংগীতশিল্পী হওয়াটা যে গর্বের একটা বিষয়, তা সেই মুহূর্তে বুঝেছিলাম।" রিঙ্গো স্টার বলেন, "অনুষ্ঠানটি যেন অনন্য সাজে সেজেছিল। দর্শক-শ্রোতার উপস্থিতি ছিল বিশাল।"<br /> <br /> হয়েছিল প্রায় আড়াই লাখ ডলার। ১৯৭১ সালের ডিসেম্বরে প্রকাশিত তিনটি রেকর্ডসহ অ্যালবাম এবং ১৯৭২ সালের মার্চের কনসার্ট নিয়ে তৈরি ফিল্ম থেকে আয় নাটকীয়ভাবে বেড়ে যায়। পরবর্তী দশকগুলোতে এসব অর্থ দান করা মানুষের ওপর ঘটতে থাকা অন্যায় এর বিরুদ্ধে পশ্চিমী বিশ্বে বিশেষ করে তরুণদের মাঝে ব্যাপক সচেতনতা সৃষ্টি করার মধ্য দিয়ে। জর্জ হ্যারিসন যেমন বলেছিলেন, "অর্থ নয়, বরং গণমানুষের মধ্যে সচেতনতা তৈরি করাই হবে আমাদের মূল লক্ষ্য, কারণ যতো টাকাই আমরা তুলি না কেন তা দিয়ে তো আর বাংলাদেশের বর্তমান সমস্যার সমাধান করা যাবে না।" এই কনসার্ট, আর অসাধারণ আবেগ নিয়ে গাওয়া জর্জ হ্যারিসনের 'বাংলাদেশ' গানের মধ্য দিয়ে রাতারাতি সারা বিশ্বে ছড়িয়ে পড়ে বাংলাদেশের নাম। বাংলাদেশকে কেন সমর্থন দেয়া জরুরি এই বক্তব্যটিই বহু মানুষের কাছে পৌঁছে যায় এই অনুষ্ঠানটির মধ্য দিয়ে। যে কিংবদন্তী-প্রতিম সঙ্গীতশিল্পীদের গান মুগ্ধ <div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"> <br /> <b>May 3:</b><br /> <div style="text-align: justify;"> <br /> <ul> <li><a href="http://www.profile-of-bengal.com/p-b/www.profile-bengal.com/0503_letter_cp_ep.htm">Letter of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of East Pakistan</a> (Bangla Desh) on the situation in Bangladesh:</li> </ul> <blockquote class="tr_bq"> “A just struggle: </blockquote> <blockquote class="tr_bq"> (i) The present struggle of the people of Bangla Desh is the culmination of their struggle for democracy and autonomy which they were conducting since 1948 against the reactionary ruling classes which had ruthlessly suppressed democracy and national rights of the various nationalities. </blockquote> <blockquote class="tr_bq"> (ii) The people of Bangla Desh and their leaders had never wanted the secession of East Pakistan. But they had always tried to establish their democratic and national rights through democratic struggles and through the election held in 1970. Even after a sweeping victory in the election and securing an absolute majority in the National Assembly, the Awami League and its Chief Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had wanted nothing more than a constitution based on the six-point programme. Sheikh Mujib had also repeatedly tried to come to a political settlement with the ruling military junta. </blockquote> <blockquote class="tr_bq"> (iii) But it was the ruling military junta, which had earlier held the election but had ultimately refused to transfer power to the elected representatives of the people, that launched a treacherous armed attack against the people. In fact, the military junta had no intention of transferring power. The Yahya-Mujib talks, etc., were nothing but ruse by the junta to gain time for preparation of the armed attack.</blockquote> <blockquote class="tr_bq"> It was only after this armed attack by the ruling military junta that the popular struggle for democracy and autonomy had turned into an armed battle for the liberation of our motherland. </blockquote> <blockquote class="tr_bq"> (iv) This liberation battle is fundamentally a battle for the just right of self-determina­tion of the 75-million Bengalis waged against the reactionary ruling classes composed of the monopolists and feudalists who are backed and armed by the imperialists, especially the U.S. imperialists. </blockquote> <blockquote class="tr_bq"> (v) In no case it is a struggle against the people of West Pakistan. Rather this liberation struggle of Bangla Desh against the reactionary ruling classes which are also suppressing and oppressing the people of West Pakistan will help their struggle for democracy and autonomy. </blockquote> <blockquote class="tr_bq"> (vi) The liberation struggle is being carried on by the Mukti Fouz (Liberation Army) and the people of Bangla Desh. Therefore, the propaganda by the ruling military junta of Pakistan that it is an "India-inspired struggle", "by Indian armed intruders" and that "India is interfering in the internal affairs of Pakistan", etc., is nothing but a canard. Similarly, the propaganda by some pro-Peking groups that this liberation struggle is inspired by the imperialists is a dire falsehood.</blockquote> <blockquote class="tr_bq"> Judging all the above facts, all democrats of the world should be fully convinced that the present struggle for the liberation of our motherland is a just struggle against native and foreign reactionaries who are enemies of humanity and peace.
